Driving-Up CMM Measuring Lab Efficiency With Motorized Fixture Plates

The ZEISS, remote controlled, self-propelled CARFIT eMOBEE honeycomb fixture plate efficiently transport components providing sustainable support for the CMM loading processes in the measuring lab. The increase in parts variety, along with companies’ intensive efforts to inspect components at an even faster rate, means that measuring areas must be properly equipped to achieve the required efficiency levels.

With the ZEISS CARFIT eMOBEE individual components are fixtured onto the honeycomb gridplate and travel already prepared from the production line to the measuring lab, and even to the designated measuring machine as scheduled. If multiple grid plates are used at the same time, machine downtimes can be drastically reduced.

Remote Controlled Without Tracks

The system is navigated by remote control locating the final position in the measuring cell semi-automatically using an integrated positioning system. Electronic markings, which are about two centimeters in size, are coded accordingly so that they can be read by the integrated camera making it unnecessary to prepare the lab floor with tracks. CARFIT eMOBEE features electric drive and is powered by built-in batteries. The battery life depends on the load, the travel path and the frequency but under normal operating conditions, a single charge is sufficient for several days of use. The batteries can be recharged within three hours.

Powerful four-wheel drive and suspension allows the plate to be steered omnidirectionally over almost any surfaces significantly accelerating the measuring process, saving resources and occupied space. The system can manoeuvre with diagonal and lateral movements making the plate suitable for use even in small measuring labs.

Precisely Fixtured Components

The high-precision hole grid enables the setup of workpiece fixtures and since the mobile plate is extremely light, it’s also possible to clamp heavy or multiple parts on the system. Lightweight and stiff Integrated honeycombs, made from aluminum, give the plate the necessary stiffness – much like in beehives with the weight is spread around the hexagonal walls rather than at individual points allowing the structure to handle a 30 percent increased load compared to other transportation solutions.
